A way forward

Anyone who knows history knows things happen.

Those who think that what is happening now hasn't happened before either don't know history or are deluded.

There are times to go forward and times to surrender.

The current situation, posited as one of decline of superabundance, is a control technique by the empire's elite to have the people feel poorly about themselves.

In the hopes that the people will feel so hopeless and confused that they will do nothing or, better yet, do what they are used to doing and do nothing that way, to continue doing what they've done while missing the point of the story, of the history they're in. 

"Rich people are poor people with money," George Orwell wrote.

It might be said that the job of the state is to protect its shadow.
