The gentlemen around the country club table talking about their experiences in World War II said there was a feeling among them that this would never happen again.
By this they meant another world war.
One of them, a successful entrepreneur who'd retired to the country club life, said the corporations were built up so that the country could protect itself from war.
I, of another generation, took this in, just beginning to think about such things.
It seems to have come true. That big business, as constituted by its corporations, could form a sort of empire and operate as a state without the constrictions of statehood.
Corporate rule is beneficial for sure. A man like Steven Pinker believes we're far less violent, statistically, and live in the most peaceful of times. Furthermore, Pinker can be googled for proof.
On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, the new federal building there made a definite impression on us travelers. It appears to a place where big decisions are meant to be made by the state about little people otherwise known as individuals.
