New, Brand New, Fred Dewey book
TO DEAR FRED ROGERS DEWEY LEGACY PROJECT (FRDLP) people—
I have in my hands the ‘proof’ copy of the book Fred wrote and we all helped to make, “Without the Consent of the People”. The book looks really great, is guaranteed to feel good in a reader’s hands, and reads like the epic it is! I’m telling people who’ve asked that, “it’s the kind of book you can jump into almost anywhere and get something out of…”
Thanks to all of you FRDLP folks for all your good energy and interest in the project—almost 5 years in the creation. Herculean efforts from Jeremiah and Sue —their editorial efforts are inside, appreciations and analysis of Fred’s work, (see pps.11-21 and pps.215-221. Jeremiah especially spent hours and hours shaping the manuscript, re-ordering, in some cases, the ebbs and flows of Fred’s thought processes. Erik Smith, a colleague of Fred’s in Berlin, was an invaluable copy editor. Art was contributed by Renee Petropolous and Lucas Reiner, and Lucas’ photos of Fred’s Santa Monica apartment as well as those by Robert Wedemeyer, say nearly everything about our dear friend.
Publication date: Spring 2026! Working on q book launch strategy—hopefully LA—New York—Berlin. Your ideas are welcomed
(Sidenote: what started with 2, at the most 3, blurbs for Fred’s work, has now grown to 9!—my favorite is from filmmaker Dana Duff : “Thank God for Fred Dewey.”)
