Toasting marshmallows in Hitler's Bunker

Soccer is boring yet it’s conquered the world. Therefore, soccer is not boring; soccer is bread and circus and televised boredom.

Germany already took down the world once in 1914, then again in 1940 when the takedown became twice. Germany, the birthplace of hydraulics, is a perennial favorite, a powerhouse of a team. Smart money doesn’t bet against the Germans.

I don’t watch soccer, having nothing against soccer per se, only that I prefer watching something else, or reading a book. I find Gombrich’s “A Little History of the World” soothing, even uplifting reading before I turn off the bedroom lap and go to sleep.
