Unbamboozled in France
The Francis Scott Key Monument in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, partially removed in June, 2020. In 2021, an installation by sculptor Dana King called Monumental Reckoning was placed around the monument.
Are you Bamboozled by American history? I am!
It seems everyone I know and admire knows far more about it than I do! I wish I could ask my mom, a journalist and writer, hey mom, what’s an emolument?…is there still something called the Insurrection Act?
This much I do know: Americans are not making America great again, Americans are simply duplicating, or is it replicating, ugly nasty swatches of US history, covering up the misdeeds of the creators of the Constitution of the United States in 1787, ratified by 9 of the 13 states and signed by 39 of the 55 delegates to the Congress of Confederation held in Philadelphia. The ‘steal’, as now it’s called, could have been stopped just like that once the votes were tabulated and the graduates of our so-called electoral college verified the results. American history it seems will let you down almost every single time.
French history is so much easier to slip in to Two very recent examples come to mind: Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France from 2007-2012, was just sentenced to prison for 5 years by the high court there. “If they absolutely want me to sleep in prison, I will sleep i prison—but with my head held high” he told the press after the September 25 verdict. Meantime, Brigitte Bardot, 91, was pronounced dead last week in Toulon, France and then pronounced herself alive as the very same Brigitte Bardot, re-named Brigitte Godot in a bit of typical French hyperbole, but true nonetheless.
