Poetry is Yellow and Red
Every day, someone somewhere is reading a poem.
I read a poem every day, not that I’m such a good person but I know poetry is good for me, and it is.
Personally, I believe poetry is the reflection of a chaos that only God knows what the do with, knowing chaos can’t be held in anyone’s hand. There are people though who read poetry without really knowing where their heart is and have to look under their shirt to find it. Or read a poem with only one eye open when most all of them have two eyes and not just one.
Poetry is volatile, this much I do know.
I know too that poetry is always the best defense against a certain type of stupidity, a kind of enlargement of one’s thoughts and feelings so that one is better able to see the world, being in it and of it even when there are certain problems to heeded.
The current problem is a political problem facing poetry: that America can no longer make an intelligent case against Europe and European culture, having identified it as weak, vulnerable and, even more regrettably, as an enemy.
Even so, poetry is still the place where all ends meet.
