Itching for a Good Platitude

The road ahead often looks much the same as the road behind.

Sometimes the bad idea turns out to be the good idea, and the good idea the bad (paraphrasing Heraclitus).

Do we finally agree that there is only one God? Are we all on the same page?

The overwhelming majority of poetry as practiced by practicing poets is really not poetry at all but prose chopped up into lines, so that often the prose looks like a poem and gives the poem and poet the appearance of having written a poem, as in Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

Do you remember when you were a kid and had zits and just wished they’d go away when it was time for you to take a girl to the prom? Trump v. Biden in 2024.

Is there really such a thing as a non-partisan ‘think tank’?

It’s not meant to be sexist but it’s true: women’s basketball is much better than it used to be.

What passes for thinking these days is often not thinking, and I truly hope it’s not my thinking.
